About the data

  • Local data engineering: data engineering titles (data engineer, analytics engineer, data platform, ETL developer, data integration, data warehouse, data architect) in the four metros above, Virginia only. Small sample; read it as a handful of real jobs, not a trend.
  • Local related tech roles: software, analyst, data science, BI and database titles in the same metros.
  • Virginia and US data engineering: the same titles statewide and nationwide, same 90-day window, no seniority or remote filter, so the two compare fairly.
  • Work arrangement uses the source's own field where it's filled, then phrases in the description ("fully remote", "hybrid", "on-site"); everything else is unknown. The method hasn't been checked against hand-labeled postings yet.
  • Source: JobsPipe (full posting text). Each group is a capped sample of recent postings, not a count of every job.
